Mak Grgić - Great Artist Series

Touted as a “gifted young guitarist” by the New York Times, and “a guitarist to keep an eye on” by the Washington Post, Mak Grgić is emerging as a star on the worldwide stage.
An expansive and adventurous repertoire attests to his versatility and wide-ranging interests: from the Baroque and Renaissance to music of the cinema; from ethnic music of his native Balkans to extreme avant-garde and microtonal music, Mak’s extraordinary talents and tastes as soloist, collaborator, and recording artist are fueled by his curiosity, imagination, and boundless energy.

Violinist Abigail Stahlschmidt will join Mak as a special guest on works by Serbian guitarist and composer Miroslav Tadic.

Join us in concert with the Hanser-McClellan Guitar Duo to celebrate the life of Inside Classical Guitar host John Clayton.

Inside Classical Guitar is a one-hour weekly radio show on Classic 107.3 FM featuring the music of the classical guitar. It has run continuously since May 2013, with John Clayton as both show host and producer. Before his passing on July 5 of this year, John had created a list of his favorite guitar pieces, and had received the promise of his friends John McClellan and Kirk Hanser to play some of them at the celebration of his life held later that month. John and Kirk have chosen some of this special music that John Clayton loved to create this tribute concert that he would certainly have loved to hear.

We’ll hear music from Celso Machado, Johann Kaspar Mertz, Dominico Scarlatti, and Paulo Bellinati. As an added bonus, the performance will also feature the world  premiere of Aquarelle Latino in its original configuration for two guitars  and string quartet, a three-movement work written for and dedicated to John McClellan by Argentinian composer Jorge Morel (1931-2021) in 2006. It will include members of the Webster University Orchestra.
